Duke Gardens, Durham, NC : I am lucky to live near the 55-acre Duke Gardens (on the campus of Duke University in Durham, NC), where I am a recommended photographer for events at the Gardens. I love visiting and photographing at any time of the year, particularly when the wisteria is blooming in April. You may also enjoy my galleries of daylilies and roses (rose pictures also appear here) at Duke Gardens. Note: the pictures are named in the format MMDDYYYY and then presented here sorted by name, so that all pictures from, say, January of any year precede pictures from February of any year, and so forth. Sisters' Garden - Chapel Hill, NC : Barbara Stiles and Bernice Wade are well known and loved. They happily exhibit their The Garden is Open sign at their charming home in the historic Gimghoul neighborhood of Chapel Hill, NC - and have done so for decades, even now that they're ninety+ years young. Folks come by the busload to enjoy their spectacular spring garden, particularly in April once the dogwoods have started to bloom, and to meet the energetic twins. A children's book has been written about their garden and they have been on television, radio, and many periodicals. I have a special connection with them as Barbara is my cousin's Godmother. You can read more about them in many sources, such as April 6, 2007, and November 23, 2005 newspaper articles. Nephew Tom has started in spring 2007 the website The Garden is Open. I brought some students to the garden in early April 2008 - their gallery of images can also be seen. Note: pictures are sorted into four categories: (A) signs and the twins, (B) house, (C) garden, and (D) closeups. Within those categories, images are sorted by month and day. Favorite shots appear at the beginning.

Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus, OH : I visited the Franklin Park Conservatory two miles from downtown Columbus, Ohio on a chilly day in late March 2008 to scout an engagement photography session. Established in 1895 in a ninety acre park, it is said to feature 400 plant species and be the garden owning the largest permanent Chihuly collection. Here are a few pictures that I took; I hope to come back to enjoy this beautiful conservatory more leisurely sometime. Note: the pictures are not sorted by date, but by area within the conservatory: Front and outdoors, Pacific Island Water Garden, Himalayan Mountains, Tropical Rain Forest, Desert, Palm House, and Grand Atrium (including special exhibitions there). Arboretum at Tanglewood Park, Clemmons, NC : In late June 2006, I had the pleasure of attending a picnic in Tanglewood Park, a large area not far from Winston-Salem, NC. After the picnic, I stumbled upon the beautiful Arboretum at Tanglewood Park near sundown, and took a few pictures of the enchanting statuary and gardens. It is a large arboretum and includes hiking trails that time didn't permit exploring ... this visit!

North Carolina Botanical Garden, Chapel Hill : These pictures are from North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. I've been a member of this garden for some years, and love visiting to see the National Rosemary Collection of the Herb Society of America located here, as well as many flowering plants, grasses, and often whimsical sculpture. Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary, Charlotte, NC : I'm delighted to have found this lovely garden near downtown Charlotte in early 2005. Elizabeth Barnhill and Eddie Clarkson married in 1927 and built a simple home in the prestigous Myers Park neighborhood, near downtown. Their love of animals and nature led them to build an ever growing garden, which is now a 4-acre site of formal gardens and woodlands, incl. pools, fountains, and bird baths. It is open to the public (currently Su 2-5, Tu 3-5, W 10-noon, and no admission fee) as one of the country's biggest urban bird sanctuaries.
